The resonator symmetrical load (also called Compound or band-pass), is to use an enclosure with an internal partition dividing the volume into two, on which is mounted the speaker. This latter is subjected to acoustic load on both its front and rear. Generally the volume situated on its front face includes a vent and it is by this vent that the sound emission is performed. The rear volume is almost always closed but more complex formulas are possible.
Typically this type of loudspeaker has a similar response to that of a bandpass filter, hence its name. It is frequently used for the subwoofers as it offers a natural acoustic filtering reducing the need of electronic filtering.
